The function of the Manganese green sand water filter media is to remove the content of Manganese (Mn2 +), Iron Hydrogen Sulfide which looks like an oily top layer in drinking water or ground water or PDAM water or mountain water.
Manganaese Greensand is a special sand coated with catalyst material. This layer reacts with iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide in water and forms a precipitate which is then trapped in the filter media.
Manganese Greensand that has been saturated must be regenerated with potassium permanganate (KMnO4) to rejuvenate the layer again.
